BT Expand Cimage document management system throughout the UK

BT Radio Structures is a unit within British Telecom plc, which manages a network of over 250 radio transmission towers across the UK. The towers support a range of radio antennas used by BT and mobile telecommunications companies such as Cellnet, Vodafone, and One 2 One.
The new Cimage system will allow BT Radio Structures' offices in London and Glasgow to maintain and distribute electronically over 150,000 drawings and specifications, including some 50,000 drawings created in AutoCAD, to over 30 BT offices around the United Kingdom. The flexibility of the software and the accuracy of the information means that data can be accessed in different ways, so novice and remote users can intuitively search through the system via the BT intranet for viewing, printing and redlining of drawings and specifications. btstructures.jpg (4461 bytes)

The new system provides BT's planning, installation and maintenance offices throughout the UK with instant, online access to up-to-date information on drawings and other records. This eliminates the present costly and time consuming practice of producing and mailing large-format prints and microfilm around the country and has enabled BT to move their drawing storage to an archive in Bracknell, freeing up valuable accommodation space in Central London.

In addition, remote users will no longer have to call the Glasgow office to check the availability of space for antennas on the towers. Instead, they will be able to call up information on the radio towers instantaneously from the Cimage system at any time, 365 days a year.

Cimage DM Net software allows remote users to access information via their web browsers and provides links to the Radio Solutions web site. This enables any authorized user with access to the BT Intranet to call up information from anywhere in the world. BT are now planning to provide access to their suppliers and customers to enable them to access information that will reduce lead times and eliminate mistakes.
