Texaco invests in electronic
document management to control 200,000 documents on Captain Project
Texaco's 500 million Captain Project announced its selection of Cimage as the supplier of an electronic document management system (EDMS) in
1992. The system delivers tailored documentation and information about related equipment
to the oil company's Aberdeen Operations Group.
The EDMS project is based at the Captain Offices in ABB Global Engineering, Sutton, near
London. The system has been developed to hold both image and native format documents from
all four design and fabrication sites and has been selected to minimize the documentation
passed to the operations group. Jim Castle, Texaco's Principal Project Services Engineer,
when choosing Cimage said: "Our studies have shown we need an EDMS to manage and
control the volume of documents that we pass to the operations group and Cimage is our
preferred supplier for this technology."
The project team anticipate that the handover of electronic data for the key operations
document in their native form will produce significant annual savings on the OPEX budget
for the field. Shah Etebar, Captain Field Development Manager, said: "The on-going
savings in annual operating costs throughout the life of the field makes early investment
in this technology a sound proposition for Texaco."
